Cardboard Shredders
Do you want to make eco-friendly packaging from your cardboard waste?
A Cardboard Shredder is a sustainable solution to repurpose and recycle corrugated cardboard waste into void-fill material. These machines pay for themselves by helping reduce the cost of packaging material, and waste disposal.
What is a cardboard shredder?
A Cardboard Shredder is a commercial/industrial machine that lets you instantly recycle and repurpose your cardboard waste into packaging material. These cardboard recycling machines can produce cushioning strips or mats of cardboard.
Is a cardboard shredder the same as a paper shredder?
A Cardboard Shredder isn’t meant to shred paper or confidential documents, so don’t confuse this machine with a paper shredder as they are very different devices.
While the purpose of a paper shredder is to destroy confidential paper documents by cutting them into unreadable particles or confetti to protect people’s privacy, the purpose of a Cardboard Shredder is to make packaging and void-fill material.
Although a Cardboard Shredder is not a paper shredder, it does operate a bit like one. The machines work to cut the cardboard material and transform it into tiny chips, long strips or perforated sheets, depending on the type of shredder used. The purpose of the machine is to reuse the processed cardboard as a free packaging material.
Cardboard packaging material is not only cheaper, but also more environmentally friendly than using plastic.
So if your business uses a lot of packaging material for shipping products and you have lots of cardboard waste, a Cardboard Shredder is an ideal solution to reduce costs on this material and waste disposal of your scrap cardboard.
How does a cardboard shredder work?
A Cardboard Shredder cuts or shreds your cardboard waste into (long) strips or (small) chips. Both the strips and chips are great to use as void-fill and easily replace plastic packing peanuts. Cardboard Shredders can also make cardboard padding that can be wrapped around items.
Cardboard Shredders can shred any corrugated cardboard. The only requirement is that the cardboard is flat, such as flattened cardboard boxes or sheets. Therefore thick cardboard rolls can’t be processed by these machines because they are too thick. It should also be noted that kraft paper can’t be shredded by these machines because it is too thin.
Cardboard Shredders are user-friendly and very easy to operate. Here’s just how easy it is:
- Turn the machine on by switching the on/off/switch.
- Grab a piece of cardboard and feed it into the front opening of the shredder.
- That’s it! The shredded cardboard falls out of the back of the machine ready for use.
It is strongly recommended to remove any staples or other hard metal objects from the cardboard to prevent wear-and-tear damage to the cutting heads. Occasional shredding of stapled cardboard will likely not cause any problems, but constant cardboard processing with metal items such as staples, is likely to damage the cutting cylinders. It is best to remove the staples and other sharp metal items because if you use the shredded cardboard as packaging material for fragile products, these metals could damage your fragile product!

Pre-loved Cardboard Boxes
Do you want to do your bit for the environment ... and SAVE money?
Everybody know that a cardboard box can be used more than once!
And at Box Depot, we are proud to sell once-used cardboard boxes to those moving house.
We know a good bit about moving house. Not because we worked in the house-moving industry, but because we Moved House. Quite. A. Lot! It was infuriating (and embarrassing at times!) to pop to our local supermarket and beg for empty boxes that (in our opinion) were too small or flimsy to be of any real use.
At the same time, we were working in industries who would get deliveries of products in brand new boxes that would be shoved into rubbish bins to be put into landfill or recycled/remade into brand new boxes again!
Our cardboard boxes are once-used recycled boxes and therefore may have been pre-taped and have some printed text on them. These boxes have been used to deliver dry goods to factories (eg bottle tops, packaging materials, jam jars etc). They would normally have been taken away for shredding. However the concept of re-using boxes, which has been common practice in the US and UK for a number of years is coming to Ireland.
Our Double Wall boxes are ideal packing, storage and shipping boxes for heavy and fragile goods. They have excellent resistance to crushing, due to their high specification construction. All our Double Wall cardboard boxes are made from superior grade TWIN fluted corrugated board ... you will notice the difference!
Our Single Wall cardboard boxes are made from high quality Single Wall corrugated cardboard. They are strong and sturdy and retain their shape, even when fully loaded or when packed tightly together. They are used extensively in industry as packing, storage and shipping cartons and domestically as general packaging and moving boxes. All our Single Wall boxes are made from superior grade rigid flute corrugated board. Their outstanding quality and rigidity make them essential when moving your belonging.
I'm not sure which box I need. Can I call in to see the boxes before I buy?
Buying online is very convenient, as even though our listings are as comprehensive as possible, sometimes there is no substitute for seeing the products "in person"!
It is possible to call into our shop and buy when you get here ... just double-check our opening hours!
Are these boxes as good as brand new boxes?
Absolutely! We have a rule at Box Depot: If we wouldn't use the box to move our own households, we don't stock it!
The boxes you receive may have been gently used once, or they may be brand new overruns, misprints or customer returns. They may also have a label or two on them... and could even have some handwriting on them. But for the purposes of packing them for moving house, or to ship an item, they are great!
The suppliers of our used boxes are manufacturers, distributors and retailers that use high-quality boxes only once.
Whichever boxes you order from us, you can rest assured that you are getting quality boxes that are substantially less expensive than brand new boxes and are therefore a fantastic eco-friendly choice!
I only need one or two boxes?
That is absolutely no problem at all. All our boxes are sold individually.
You can even decide to call into our shop to collect your box to save on shipping costs!
I need a large quantity of boxes?
That is absolutely no problem at all. Just phone us at 01-4507272 and we will be able to discuss pallet quantities and prices with you.
Can I buy Custom-Made and/or Branded Boxes?
In an ideal world, everything would be brand-new and never used! But then the planet would not be in the Climate Crisis that it is now!
All the cardboard boxes offered at Box Depot are once-used recycled boxes (because we think it is the environmentally responsible thing to do).
Many businesses do not realise that their customers also care about the environment and might prefer that goods are sent to them in stronger boxes that are eco-friendly and sustainable.
Buying once-used recycled cardboard boxes is an easy, cost-effective way of businesses showing they are an eco-friendly company that cares about sustainable packaging.
I've moved house and unpacked. Can I return the boxes I used?
Congratulations, not only on your eco-friendly decision to buy once-used cardboard boxes, but also not wanting to fill up landfills with cardboard boxes!
You are welcome to drop any boxes back to us at our shop. Unfortunately we are currently unable to pick them up from you.
However, you could always consider friends or family who are in need of boxes? Or flattened cardboard boxes are brilliant in the garden at keeping down weeds! Or you could bring them to your local Recycling Centre that accepts corrugated cardboard!

Sustainable Washroom Supplies
Sustainable
Sugarcane matures in 11 months while trees can take 30 years or more. Using sugarcane by-products doesn't contribute to deforestation, a leading cause of climate change.
Biodegradable
Industry standards say that toilet paper should break down within 19 seconds when flushed. Sugarcane toilet paper breaks down in only 4 seconds, making them safe for the ocean ... and your drains!
Low carbon emissions
As a by-product, sugarcane fibre is widely available and doesn't require cutting down trees. There are also fewer steps needed to process it, making it less fuel-intensive than it's wood-based counterparts.
Tackles climate change
After the sugar has been processed, the leftover plant material (bagasse) is often burned. This can be a major contributing factor to climate change. Using this leftover material can help stop this harmful practice.
Hacona Heat Sealers
What can I seal with a Hacona heat sealer?
Flexible plastic film and bags such as PE, PP, PA, PVC and other thin laminate films can be sealed. PE film up to two layers of 200 microns can be sealed.
Are Hacona heat sealers available in different colors?
Due to the high temperatures of the sealing bar that is required, for safety, Hacona Heat Sealers are an eye-catching orange powder coated extruded aluminium for general use.
A silver-coloured anodised aluminium model is available for food- and pharma-related industries although it should be noted that the metal is not acid-proof.
How large a seal does a Hacona heat sealer produce?
The C-Type Sealers create a seal of 2.5mm.
The S-Type Sealers create a seal of 5mm.
What temperature does a heat sealer operate at?
Heat sealers are used to weld together two layers of thermoplastic. Thermoplastics are heat-reactive and tend to melt and seal at roughly 140 degrees which means a heat sealer must press together the two layers at this temperature to seal them properly.
Can a Hacona heat sealer overheat?
All Hacona Heat Sealers work on the Impulse Sealing Principle. The sealing wire will only get hot when the sealing bar is closed during the sealing process. After the sealing process, the temperature of the sealing wire will automatically diminish. This reduces the possibility of a Hacona Heat Sealer overheating.
How long does it take to heat seal a product?
This is determined by the thickness and type of material used, but often it takes less than two seconds to fully seal.
Does the heat sealer need to be the size of my product?
Hacona Heat Sealers use bar sealer technology. The sealing bar should be larger than the product being bagged. A complete seal will not be reached if the bar is shorter than the product.
What cannot be packaged using a Hacona heat sealer?
The sealing wire of a Hacona Heat Sealer can reach high temperatures. In order to avoid danger to the operator and the machine, the following should not come in contact with a Hacona Heat Sealer: liquids, wet products and flammable materials.
I already have a Hacona heat sealer - can I get spare parts?
Yes. Box Depot has spare parts available for Hacona Heat Sealers. Please contact us at 01-4507272 to discuss your requirements.
Sugarcane Toilet Paper
What is Sugarcane Toilet Paper?
Sugarcane Toilet Paper is a type of toilet paper made from the waste fibres (bagasse) of sugarcanes after the sugar has been extracted. It's a more sustainable alternative to traditional toilet paper, as sugarcane is a fast-growing and renewable resource.
How is Sugarcane Toilet Paper made?
Sugarcane toilet paper is made by extracting the sugar and then using the waste fibres to be processed into toilet paper. The fibrous pulp is formed into thin sheets which are then rolled and cut into individual toilet rolls.
Is Sugarcane Eco-friendly?
Yes, sugarcane is considered environmentally friendly because sugarcane is a renewable resource that grows quickly and requires fewer resources (such as water and land) compared to traditional wood pulp.
Additionally, sugarcane cultivation can help sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Sugarcane toilet paper is made from the waste fibres (bagasse) after the sugar has been extracted, so it is actually made from a by-product from another industry, reducing waste even further.
Is Sugarcane Toilet Paper as soft as Traditional Toilet Paper?
Sugarcane toilet paper is generally soft and comfortable to use, and similar to traditional toilet paper. Sugarcane toilet paper is designed to be gentle on the skin with fewer harsh chemicals, and provide a comfortable wiping experience.
