You’ve made the big decision … and now you find yourself scratching your head while it silently implodes as you try to work out how much stuff you have and how many boxes you’ll need to get it packed up!
This is often the biggest stress-inducer – whether you need to pack up because you’re moving house, or whether you just want to declutter (but need to keep it cos of sentimental value).
Here at Box Depot, our range of House Moving Kits will hopefully, at least, get you started, if not the job done for you …
"One man's trash is another man's treasure"
Full disclosure time … I have a habit of gathering and, erm, keeping stuff! My personal “most favourite things” are my cookbooks (especially back in those days while we were locked down during Covid. It was pure escapism to be able to read Spanish or Greek (or anywhere!) recipes and pretend I was dining on a sun-drenched beach or harbour watching the Mediterranean sun slowly set, leaving a beautifully balmy evening …. ahem, but, back to reality! LOL!) I purposely keep my cookbooks in a restrictive shelving system in my dining room. Yes, they’re in full view so that I’m aware if my “collection” is getting too out of control. Yes, the dogs have had a mooch and a snuffle (and attempted to read/digest some of my cookbooks!) but I still treasure them (the cookbooks AND the dogs!)
Point is, it could easily be porcelain whatnots, mounted photos, books … it is nobody’s business what a person decides they need. In the nicest possible way, I often get phone calls from people who think by saying “I’m moving house and need to pack my 3-bedroom house” and can I suggest exactly how many cardboard boxes etc they’ll need. Unfortunately it’s a question of how much stuff you have, and how important it is for you to keep or discard it ...
The very first job, whether you are moving house or just need to do something about the overwhelming cluttered feeling, is to decide:
Do I really need this?
Once you have decided (and there are plenty others far more qualified than me to explain how to declutter!) you are just left with your “Needful Things” that you need to pack up. But once you’ve decided what you intend to keep, you can remove some of the overwhelm by choosing one of our ready-made House Moving Kits!
Our most basic kit. 13 boxes, in various different sizes, with a roll of brown tape to seal up the boxes. If you are metrically-minded, the boxes in the kit will hold approximately 0.5 cubic metres. Perfect if you have things that you want to store in the attic (the small size of the boxes means you can easily manhandle them while perched on the attic ladder!) Our Mini Kit includes 3 different sizes of boxes but you can purchase extra separately in addition to the Kit, should you require more boxes.
Comprising of exactly the same number of boxes (which are once-used recycled boxes) that are in our Mini Kit. However, instead of polypropylene (plastic) tape, the Eco Mini Kit includes a roll of brown paper tape. The quantity of boxes is the same, so it will store approximately 0.5 cubic metres. We try our very best with our Eco Kits to make them as eco-friendly as possible, and therefore the outer wrapping is a recyclable plastic (which can be disposed in your Green Bin) but which also keeps it dry in typical-grey-Irish-rainy-weather!
Comprising of 19 cardboard boxes, as well as 10 metres of bubble wrap, a marker to label the boxes and a roll of tape, this Budget Kit is very popular for Student Residences, as well as those who just need “a few” boxes. The boxes will cover approximately 0.75 cubic metres, but you can easily add more boxes to your order if you require them.
This kit comprises the same quantity of boxes as our Budget Kit, however rather than (pesky plastic!) bubble wrap, it includes 10 metres of corrugated paper as well as some packing paper. The Eco Budget Kit also includes a roll of paper tape. As with our other kits, it has a outer wrapping of recyclable plastic (owing to unpredictable Irish weather!)
Our Bargain Moving Kit is perhaps one of our more popular Kits. It comprises of 23 various different sizes of once-used cardboard boxes, 10 metres of bubble wrap, a marker to label the boxes and two rolls of tape. This Bargain Kit is very popular, as it is a great starting point no matter how large your house is. The boxes will cover approximately 0.95 cubic metres, but you can easily add more boxes to your order if you require them.
This Eco Bargain Kit comprises the same quantity of boxes as our Bargain Kit, however rather than bubble wrap, it includes 10 metres of corrugated paper as well as some packing paper. It also includes two rolls of paper tape. As with our other kits, it has a outer wrapping of recyclable plastic (owing to unpredictable Irish weather!)
Our Jumbo Moving Kit is perhaps our most popular Kit. It comprises of 44 various different sizes of once-used cardboard boxes, 20 metres of bubble wrap, three rolls of tape, a tape dispenser, as well as a marker to label the boxes, a utility knife and a pair of utility gloves. This Jumbo Kit is the Kit of Choice for families moving from 2- or 3-bed houses. The boxes will cover approximately 2 cubic metres, but you can easily add more boxes to your order if you require them.
Our Mega Moving Kit is, erm, Mega! It comprises of 56 various different sizes of once-used cardboard boxes, 30 metres of bubble wrap, four rolls of tape, as well as a roll of fragile tape and a tape gun, as well as three protective mattress bags, plain white labels, bin bags, a marker to label the boxes, a utility knife and a pair of utility gloves. If you have a lot of stuff to move, this Mega Kit is the Kit you need! The boxes will cover approximately 3 cubic metres, but you can easily add more boxes to your order if you require them.
