For more than 50 years, the Sweed 510 XHD has been the machine of choice for high-volume conversion of plastic and metal banding, mild steel flat bar and slitter-line trim. Where the 450 DDX is built for PET banding volume, the 510 XHD steps up to handle tougher and wider materials - flat material up to 40mm wide - with V4 knives specifically designed for tough scrap metals.
The cutting action is notably smooth: the knife rotation works on a scissor-like principle, which reduces vibration and noise compared to conventional choppers. For maintenance, the hinged feedworks design means the machine can be opened quickly and easily without specialist tools - a significant advantage in a production environment where downtime costs money. Both feed rolls are driven for consistent, efficient feeding, and an anti-kickback flap on the infeed funnel protects the operator. The knives can be rotated four times before replacement, extending their working life considerably.
The hinged feedworks also makes the 510 XHD an excellent choice for in-line placement to process slitter trim directly from a slitter line, eliminating manual handling of trim waste entirely.
The environmental case
Chopped pieces are reduced to approximately 90mm lengths - compact enough to store in a standard bin and straightforward to transport for recycling. Every kilogram of PET recycled into new strap material saves up to 75% of the CO₂ cost of virgin PET production ... equivalent to 4.3kg of CO₂, or driving a car for 40km, per kilogram recycled.
