Heat Sealer Spare Kits: Keep Your Impulse Sealer Running at Full Capacity

Heat Sealer Spare Kits: Keep Your Impulse Sealer Running at Full Capacity

For any business that relies on heat sealing - whether you're packaging food products, poly bags, or industrial components - downtime is costly. A worn sealing element or damaged PTFE tape can bring your entire packing line to a halt. The solution is simple: keep a spare kit on hand.

At Box Depot, we stock spare kits for Hacona C-Series impulse sealers as well as the popular PacPlus range. In this guide, we'll explain what's in a spare kit, when to replace the parts, and how to choose the right kit for your machine.

What Is a Heat Sealer Spare Kit?

A spare kit for an impulse sealer typically contains the consumable parts that wear out with regular use:

  • Sealing element (heating wire) - the nichrome wire that heats up to create the seal
  • PTFE tape - the non-stick coating that protects the element and prevents bags from sticking
  • Silicone rubber strip - the cushioning pad beneath the element that ensures even pressure

These parts are designed to be replaced periodically, much like printer ink or blade cartridges. How often depends on your usage volume.

When Should You Replace Parts?

As a general rule of thumb for businesses using impulse sealers daily:

  • Sealing element: Replace when seals become inconsistent, weak, or the wire visibly breaks
  • PTFE tape: Replace when it becomes discoloured, torn, or starts sticking to bags
  • Silicone strip: Replace when it hardens, cracks, or shows uneven compression

High-volume operations may need to replace elements every few weeks. Lower-volume users may get several months from a single set. Keeping a spare kit in stock means you're never caught out.

Tips for Extending the Life of Your Sealer

  • Always allow the sealer to cool between cycles if operating at high frequency
  • Keep the sealing bar clean and free from residue
  • Store spare kits in a dry location away from direct sunlight
  • Train staff on correct sealing technique - uneven pressure is a common cause of premature element failure
